Videotel Introduces Passenger Crowd Control and Mustering Training

Videotel has introduced a new program highlighting the necessity of psychology in passenger evacuations, which has garnered a lot of attention recently in the industry.

“Making the Difference – Passenger Mustering and Crowd Control” examines all aspects of passenger mustering, with particular attention to passenger flow on stairways, and the care of passengers once they have gathered in designated muster stations.

Nigel Cleave, Videotel CEO, states, “Without doubt, Muster Station Personnel and Stairway Guides are key players in a maritime incident where passengers are involved. They are the public face of the emergency and well trained and drilled personnel enable the Captain and his team to concentrate on the important task of resolving the situation at source . . . One of the key aspects of this program is the emphasis it places on understanding human behavior. Individuals respond to stress in very different ways and when crowds gather there is always the potential for disorder if an emergency should happen.”

Responding to new STCW standards, Videotel has worked with Princess Cruises to develop this training package, which demonstrates the importance of effective passenger evacuation for crew members of passenger ships, Ro-Pax, and ferries.  The videos in the package illustrate what to be on the lookout for, and how to manage crowds and muster passengers safely.

The new training package is available as Videotel On Demand (VOD), DVD, and VOD online.  It includes a reference workbook as well.  The program targets crew members with passenger mustering responsibilities, with a special emphasis on muster station personnel and stairway guides.
